If you do not experience this error and hide the icon, Windows Updates will still install properly. It works! Register for an account Sign in to your account. I had to go back into the settings as described above and UNCHECK the show all notifications setting and that did the trick for me. That for some reason enabled the updates to start downloading.. I was also skeptical because it seemed unrelated.

The system returned: (22) Invalid argument The remote host or network may be down. Windowsupdate_80243004 What the heck?! You're my hero of the day! What a mystery.

Upon doing this I had three that failed with the error to the right. Select "Notification Area Icons". Solution: Right click the START BUTTON (or any empty space on the task bar) and select PROPERTIES Click the TASKBAR tab Click the CUSTOMIZE button for the Notification Area At the navigate to this website Blank slots will show up in the system tray.

I'm not sure if the server is a physical server or virtual, but I am pretty sure it is virtual (it is rented from a dedicated hosting provider).
