When I upgraded to 10, I also changed the image backup location. I did do a full backup, including system state, to a shared folder on another server, and it all completed without any errors. Nicholas Schoonover has a post detailing the same issue and suggests fixing it by first shrinking the disk, then extending it again. Veritas does not guarantee the accuracy regarding the completeness of the translation. Seems that everything requires Hyper-V. We also had the exact same error message. Once I swapped cables AND removed the USB drive before clicking Finish, it works! This has been driving me nuts on one server for quite some time.
