From discussions on this thread and recommendations from ewtaylo1 (huge thanks!) I was able to put together a workaround which works for my system and from feedback I've received in twitter Kodi has several options to use for the backend server, even using WMC on a separate server with PVR WMC running an older windows version. Several functions may not work. This post is only weeks old so its a very very recent issue. I removed MC, stopped MC services, renamed C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome folder and then added it back but got it working. Everything is back up and running.
