I'm using HDMI to my monitor but the audio is going from my soundcard to my old (analog) speakers. The codecs I have installed are listed below (sorry if it is messy, I couldn't add it as an image file since I'm new). I can browse the files OK via My Computer on any video DVD. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. you will most probably see it shutdown saying it has stopped working and is trying to find a solution...well it won't it will only restart media centre again and the same Windows Media Center is a nice program, but Windows Media Center not working problem sometimes still happens to Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 users.
Windows support did point me to another thread from a few years ago reporting this same error message. I uninstalled the previous version of ffdshow on my machine (v1.0) and reinstalled the latest version (1.3.4531, tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions). Thanks but this didn't work either - I tried it even though it seemed like it was for solving tuner issues.
