Options -> Advanced tab -> Maintenance button, on the bottom there is a section "Trouble shooting". check over here

I deleted the first one and since then no longer get the pesky box popping up and can open my messages on the first click. From googling it looks like there are thousands of people with this problem, and I can't believe that nobody at Microsoft bothered to get to the bottom of this. If i shut my PC down completely & then re-boot it,it usually begins to work again. Incidentally, this problem did not start until my computer ran MS updates this evening.... Takes a few minutes but should eliminate the message. I can't reply to important e-mails without a shut down & re-boot. this content My conclusion is that WLM simply stops performing 'some' functions such as opening or deleting 'saved' e-mails,whilst other 'new' e-mails are handled with no problems.

Windows Live Mail (as does Firefox),fails to close properly & leaves the app. 'hanging' - it's already open & unable to open again until it's closed the original app. One option would be to switch to another antivirus program. PS...I just tried to open the email I got from you and it didn't open right away...I had to click on the email several times to open it . JHolland, I removed Windows Essentials 2012, then downloaded and installed Essentials 2011. yes!!! If anyone at MS is listening: how about spending a few thousand of those billions on this problem? If I do, then I get that darned error message and the next 2-3 emails will not let me open them as they show the same erros.
