If you have a Windows 2008 R2 Server installation that is getting the 0x800f081f error code then you are not hitting the RSAT tools issue. I double checked it is exactly the same. I spent hours trying to update my son's laptop to SP1 without success.
you saved me after 2 days unsucessful fight with the problem. If you click on the Details link on the error page, it displays the error code 0x800f081f Installation was not successful A system error prevented the service pack from installing. I'm using Windows Home Premium x64. Kb947821 I then rebooted and attempted to reinstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 again and hey presto, after about an hour, my laptop was up and running with Windows 7 Service Pack

I looked at the blog you linked, but I don't think I have the RSAT installed? I also attempted a system scan using sfc /scannow which found errors, but did not correct the problem. I tried all more conventional options to no avail. I don’t believe that I have fix my PC easily after using these instructions. I had tried all the info out there. I have also download the Microsoft Fix It tool, which did detetct problems with the Windows Update components, but it doesn't seem to be applying the fixes.

Definetly I found the way after the end data. I started searching its solution on websites and got this page. After I rebooted, the RAID rebuilt and is running fine. My issue was with Windows 7 but your steps worked well.
Succeeded on one, got the error on the other.
