I reluctantly did the inplace upgrade, and a couple hours later it looks like I finally got SP1 installed without any errors. Someone Help! I followed the instructions and I was able to get the new ATI video card drivers installed and have a system that would boot. In any case thanks to both Joseph and Andre for your help!
